HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): In addition to online games for the entertainment of young people using mobile phones and computers, hundreds of spectators watch traditional games in western Herat province.
In northern part of Herat city, a kabadi (local wrestling) match was held and was watched by thousands of people on Friday. At the same time, in southern part of the city, games are played such as motorcycle stunts and horse racing and hundreds of people watch these games.
Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Herat City, told Pajhwok Afghan News these games were part of the culture and tradition of the country and efforts should be made to promote such games.
Meanwhile, Wahid Ahmad, one of the wrestlers, believed that wrestling was not held in a standard manner and if improved and the number of visitors would surge.
He also said promoting traditional games would positively impact local economy.
Ustad Fraidon, head of Herat Motorcyclists Federation, said 80 riders performed their skills on Friday and attracted hundreds of fans. He urged the government to create a better place for holding this game.
On the other hand, Mawlana Naeem-ul-Haq Haqqani, director of information and culture, told Pajhwok that such games brought joys and entertained people and they were trying provide necessary facilities in this regard.
