LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The residents of southern Helmand province want the government to reconstruct school buildings destroyed by the past conflict.

Ahmad Khan, a resident of the Chah Anjir area of Nad Ali district, told Pajhwok Afghan News war-ruined schools in his locality needed reconstruction.

Ali Ahmad, who hails from Marja district, complained: “The building of the high school in our area was seriously damaged in the past conflict and no action has been taken yet to rebuild it.”

Noor Ali, a resident of the Sangin district, confirmed school buildings in the town had been destroyed and the government must take concrete action to repair them.

In the past, Ali alleged, no special attention was paid to the Helmand education sector. Currently, however, the government must focus on the task.

Nasibullah, a student from the Chah-i-Anjir area of Nad Ali district, opined: “The education department should reconstruct war-devastated schools across the province.”

Maulvi Mohammad Awaz Ansari, director of education, said with cooperation from UNICEF, reconstruction work on 36 schools was underway.
