PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Afghan youth Shafiqullah Stanakzai, who died in Turkey, was laid to rest in central Logar province on Friday after his body was transported to the country.
Stanakzai, 25, the son of Syed Ahmad, was a resident of Mughalkhel village in Mohammad Agha district and had higher education in economics.
About a month ago, Stanakzai left Afghanistan on smuggling routes to reach Europe in a bid to escape the country’s difficult economic situation. But on November 11, he fell from a building in Turkey’s Van city and lost his life.
His maternal uncle’s son Mirwais told Pajhwok after the funeral ceremony that Shafiqullah Stanakzai had no political problems in the country and he embarked on the journey to Europe because of economic hardships.
Mirwais claimed Stanakzai had been thrown from a multi-storey building by Turkish security forces during an operation in Van city and he died on the spot.
Mirwais said the body of Shafiqullah Stanakzai arrived in the country on Friday, 10 days after his death and he was laid to rest in Mughalkhel village on Friday.
Hidayatullah Aimal Ahadi, the brother in law of Shafiqullah Stanakzai, told Pajhwok that his death had saddened his entire family and friends.
He said Shafiq at a very young age performed cultural and social services at the country level, including his province and therefore loved by thousands of people.
Jalal Safi, a close friend of Shafiqullah Stanakzai, termed his death a great loss for the country and said Shafiq had earned a good name in the community due to his good morals.
He said he had jointly worked with Shafiq for several years and they tried for the youth’s unity and development.
