KABUL (Pajhwok): US special representative for Afghanistan Thomas West on Sunday said the Afghan women and girls faced indefensible restrictions in education, employment, movement and political life.
“This #HumanRightsDay, we are reminded that Afghan women and girls face indefensible restrictions - in education, employment, movement, and political life,” West tweeted on the occasion of Human Rights Day.
He also said space for free expression had shrunken for vital media and citizens in Afghanistan.
“We must keep human rights at the very center of our engagement with the Taliban, with all Afghans, and as we approach programming and diplomacy.”
Meanwhile, US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires for Afghanistan Karen Decker asked the Taliban leaders to support the efforts of human rights defenders in Afghanistan.
December 10 is celebrated as Human Rights Day every year to mark the UN’s adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
