Individuals who staged attack were Tajikistan citizens: Hekmatyar

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Head of the Hizb-e-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has said the attackers who stormed his headquarters in capital Kabul were the citizens of Tajikistan.

Addressing his followers before Friday prayer, he said both assailants were clad in local dress. They placed explosives in the switch board of their car which was parked with other vehicles in general parking.

He added when the attackers got off their vehicles they rushed towards mosque and opened firing, adding that one of his security guard closed the doors of mosque where he was present and was engaged with the attackers.

One of his guards was killed and two others injured in the initial fire-fighting, he added.

He said initial investigation showed that the attackers were not Afghans but they were from Tajikistan. He said currently he did not want to blame any group for the attack but waiting for the completion of investigation.

“When the real culprits behind the attack were exposed then we will deal with them,” warned the HIA head.
