TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A disabled educated young man in northern Takhar province says he was unable to find job for himself in the public or private institutions after two years of his graduation.
Mohibulla, has a seven-member family, and is unable to find job may be due to his disability. He could have contributed to the financial support of his family if he had a job at a time when poverty and unemployment is growing in Takhar.
In a corner of Taloqan City, the provincial, Mohibullah is disable by his two legs, writes applications for people to earn livelihood for his family.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I was four years old when my two legs stopped functioning then I decided to get education because I was unable to work. In 2017, I was able to pass an entry test at one of state-run higher education institute but was unable to continue my studies due to economic problems and then I referred to a private university where I completed my graduation with high marks. I did not know that disability will become the reason that nobody will offer me job.”
Mohibullah, who continued to complain about the bad economic situation, says that it has been two years that he had repeatedly approached government offices with valid documents and good grades to get a job, but the only reason he was not given a job is his disability.
“I passed the kankor test for public university but it was away and was unable to go there due to economic problems. Finally, I continued my studies in one of the private universities in Taloqan and in 2021 I was graduated with first grade. I was hopeful that all these hard work and efforts I will heal the pain of my family; But unaware of the fact that only my disability causes me not to get a job in any private or government office
He added, “While I have complete knowledge of English, Uzbek, Pashto and Farsi and at the same time I am sure that I can work successfully in any department of government and private administration, now that I have no job, due to worsening financial situation at home, I was forced to bear the cold weather and write applications for money, while most days I get earn no money and sometimes I earn 50-100 afghanis a day, which cannot solve my family’s problems
He asked the acting government to pay attention to the problems faced by disables and added disabled people have full mental potential, their appointment at the top could help resolve several problems and they will also be able to contribute in the financial support of their families
Referring to the maltreatment by some government employees, he said: “Every time I go to a government office, we are looked up and down and we are not treated well because we are disabled.”
Takhar Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled Affairs Director Mawlavi Ehsanullah said that people with disability would be provided support and aid providing agencies will also provide them with necessary support.
According to the law, three percent of disabled should be enrolled in government institutions but disables in Takhar complained that they are not recruited in government offices.
