MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Some development projects could not be implemented in in the Sayedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province due to the past conflict and resident had been complaining against the problems they are facing.

Around 30 villages of Sayedabad district are 80 kilometres away from Ghazni City, the capital of southern Ghazni province, while due ditches and uneven terrain these villages are not directly linked with Kabul-Kandahar Highway that go through the district for about five kilometres.

Abdul Khaliq Mohammadi, the resident of Baghak village told Pajhwok Afghan News: “There is three kilometres distance between our village and the Kabul-Kandahar Road but we are not connected with the road due to ditches and agriculture land.”

“We have no connectivity road, the Kabul-Kandahar Road is just three kilometer away from us but we still have to travel for about 50 kilometer to connect to the road,” he said.

He said as a result of war no uplift project had been completed in their district in the past 20 years.

Some trails and roads built in the past had been destroyed. “We want the government to conduct survey and build road for us,” he added.

Nasratullah, the resident of Bahadurkhel area, said: “People are facing problems transportation issues a lot specially during winter and spring roads are blocked.”

He asked the government to take step for the construction of roads in their area and resolve other issues.

Gul Wais, the resident of Taj Baigi area said the roads leading to their area are destroyed by floods and they currently went through long and difficult ways.

Abdul Sammad, the resident of Laram village, said: “There is no standard connectivity road sometimes small vehicles are driven but there is the threat of accident.”

He added the Kabul-Kandahar Highway was two kilometres from their village but ditches and agriculture lands separated them.

He said it was government responsibility to create roads and ways for the people and it should not ignore it.

Abdullah, one of the drivers, said from Sayedabad district to Ghazni City there is 80 kilometres unasphalted road but past conflict and war destroyed it.

“If the government take steps most syedabad villages will be connected with the Kabul-Kandahar highway because the road was going through the district,” he said.

Gul Rahman, the resident of Patankhel area, said they had just 2 kilometre distance with Kabul-Kandahar Highway but were not linked with the highway.

“Taj Baigi village situated close to the district centre, there is 100 kilometre distance up to Aziz Kala and total 30 villages are situated in this district, ” he added.

He said in the past due to security issues development project could not implemented but he said currently war has ended and government should address public issues.

Government officials acknowledged the problems faced by Sayedabad residents and added government will address the issue.

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Mawlavi Waheedullah Rashid said: “Local residents have shared their problems with us, it is true their roads are in dilapidated condition but we will start the road construction program,” he said.
