TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Thousands of people watched 20 people being lashed after convicted of various crimes in a sports stadium in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, on Thursday.
The onlookers included local officials.
Qari Agha Wali Quraishi, Director of Uruzgan Information and Culture department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 23 people, including three women, had been arrested in Trinkot and districts on charges of theft, embezzlement, illicit relationship, kidnapping and other crimes.
All of them were sentenced to different jail terms and lashes. The three women are yet to be whipped.
