KABUL (Pajhwok): The head of Al-Azhar University, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tayeb, has expressed his concern about the ban on women’s university education in Afghanistan and asked the Afghan authorities to reconsider their decision.
The Ministry of Higher Education announced on Monday that higher education for girls in the country had been suspended until further notice.
“All public and private universities of the country are informed that according to the Cabinet decision, the education of females has been suspended until further notice.”
Girls’ schools above sixth grade have already been closed since March.
