KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) on Tuesday urged the nation to stand ready to safeguard their homeland land and its sovereignty.

The IEA issued the call in a statement on the 43rd anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

During the occupation, the Soviet troops immeasurably ruined Afghanistan, martyred innocent people and forced millions to migrate from their country.

A government said: “Alhamdulillah, our Muslim nation fought gallantly against the invaders. After a decade, the Soviet army was defeated in Afghanistan and our oppressed nation freed from their occupation.”

No global power should doubt the faith, dignity and strong will of the Muslim and zealous people of Afghanistan, the statement added.

“It also proves our long-oppressed and poor our nation has a clear history of implementing Allah’s command (regarding jihad) …” it continued.

The government cited the defeats inflicted on British, Soviet and American forces as strong evidence of the Afghans’ resolve to protect their independence.

The IEA condemned the aggression of the former Soviet Union against Afghanistan and called on the nation to stay willing to defend its freedom.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to the continued defence of the country and the nation, as well as their religious values.

A million civilians were killed along with 90,000 mujahideen, more than 20,000 Afghan troops and over 14,000 Soviet soldiers during the occupation period.

More than a million people were maimed and around seven million others forced into fleeing the country.
