MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Mediation by local tribal elders has ended 17 years of enmity between two families in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province.
Qari Zahid Fateh, the Alingar district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The 17 years old enmity, which caused some fatalities between the families in Sangra area, was ended as a result of mediation by local tribal elders and officials yesterday.”
Each side promised not to provoke the other any longer, Fateh said, adding the families vowed live in peace and maintain good relations.
“Under the agreement, a party committing aggression against the other in the future will be fined two million afghanis,” the district’s administrative chief warned.
The families of Juma Gull Khan and Gull Mohammad Khan, meanwhile, voiced their pleasure over their reconciliation due to efforts by elders.
Qari Zia, a member of Juma Gull Khan’s family, told Pajhwok, he was happy over the end to enmity. He hoped they would lead a peaceful life.
Zia added: “Over the past 17 years, three people including a woman from our family were killed and four more injured, Thank God, our enmity has ended.”
This enmity was caused by a verbal dispute, he recalled, asking all people to protect themselves from such feuds in light of Quran, Zia continued.
Mohammad Dawood, a member of Gul Khan’s family, said: “Unfortunately, a woman and two youth were killed from our side during the enmity. Three more relatives of mine were injured. It’s God’s blessing that we have reached reconciliation.”
Dawood also urged the people to save themselves from enmity and live in peace. He called enmity an agony.
