KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has urged all governmental entities to use domestic products.

A cabinet meeting tasked a delegation to inspect the Salang highway and present its report on solutions to traffic problems.

A statement from the Administrative Affairs Office at the Presidential Palace said the cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund.

The cabinet directed the Ministries of Information, Haj and Education to help promote public awareness regarding the use of domestic products.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce and owners of different companies were asked to produce and supply quality products to the market.

Proposals from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce were accepted about the use of domestic products in all government bodies, the statement said.

The cabinet assigned a delegation comprised of representatives of the Ministries of Public Works, Transport and Civil Aviation and the Attorney General’s Office to inspect the Salang highway and present their report at the next meeting of the cabinet.

The delegation was instructed to consider an additional/alternative transit route to the highway and evaluate its estimated cost and timeline.

In the Salang tunnel, which connects Kabul with the northern provinces, a fuel tanker caught fire due to a technical fault on the 17th of December. A number of vehicles were torched in the incident.

According to media reports, 31 people died in the incident while 37 others sustained injuries.
