QALAT (Pajhwok): Coronavirus cases are on the increase in southern Zabul province with the advent of winter and due to people’s carelessness, officials of the Covid-19 hospital in Qalat, the provincial capital, say.

The Covid-19 hospital head, Dr. Anwaruddin Himmat, told Pajhwok that Covid-19 cases were increasing in Zabul with each passing day due to cold weather, lack of vaccination and inattention to healthcare.

He said hundreds of patients with Covid symptoms visited the hospital during the past two months and 559 suspicious patients were recommended tests and 145 of them tested positive for the infection.

He said the percentage of positive cases in Zabul increased to 37.39 from 15 during the past two months

Dr. Himmat feared positive cases could further increase because infected people paid no attention to their health and did not visit hospital for treatment.

He asked people to take coronavirus seriously, follow health guidelines and also to vaccinate themselves and family members.

Dr. Shamshad Sherzad, head of diagnostic laboratory/PCR of the Public Health Department, told Pajhwok that since March he examined blood samples of 6,438 suspected patients and 1,125 of them tested positive and the remaining 5313 tested negative.

Patients in the Covid-19 Hospital said the virus was still dangerous and people should follow health guidelines to protect themselves from the disease.

One of them Abdul Salam told Pajhwok he was receiving treatment in the hospital for the last several days.  He said initially he had sore throat and his body ached and he had fever. He was satisfied with services at the hospital and said his treatment was going well.

He called on people to take care of their health and also to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the infection.
