JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A new district ‘Torghar’ is being created in eastern Nangarhar province, the provincial government said on Monday.
The creation of the district has been approved from Kabul and the rest of the work will be done in the near future, officials say.
The Nangarhar media office in a statement said the approval and creation of the district was discussed during an administrative meeting today.
Nangarhar governor Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund, who chaired the meeting, recommended to relevant departments to complete the process and create Torghar district.
Torghar is a part of Sararud and Khogyani districts and the Kabul-Jalalabad highway passes through the area.
Targhar had been a major battlefield against the former Soviet Union and the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan.
