Factories contribute to air pollution in Jalalabad City

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Factories functioning inside Jalalabad City, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, would be shifted to industrial park, officials said on Tuesday.

Currently, 350 factories are functioning in Nangarhar, some of these factories are active in Shaikh Mesri Industrial Park while most are functional inside Jalabad City.

Jalalabad City Municipality Spokesperson Bakhti Jan Murad said a number of factories are functional in Jalalabad City over the year that contributed to the pollution in the city.

He said the municipality and the Industry and Mines Chamber jointly working on a plan on the bases of which industrial factories would be sent out of the city.

Toar Malang Shagiwal, head of the Shaikh Mesri Industrial Park, told Pajhwok Afghan News deteriorated road condition and electricity shortage at Shaikh Mesri Park was the main reasons why factories are not transferred.

He added if these issues were resolved factories owner will automatically shift to Shaikh Mesri Park.

He said steel mill, talc, oil producing and some other factories were functional in Jalalabad City.

Nangarhar Environmental Protection Director Eng. Feroz Mohammadi said due to the existence of factories there was more pollution in the city.
