MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A new slaughter house has been inaugurated in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, at the cost of six million dollar, an official said on Friday.
Nasratullah Yousufzai, in charge of the slaughter house, said the facility was built and completed in 2017 but it was not inaugurated due to some issues. He added six million dollar were provided by the Asian Development Bank for the project.
Yousufzai said the facility was built on 12.5 acres of land where 3,500 small and 600 large animals could be slaughtered in 24 hours. In addition, Over 300 people had been provided direct work opportunity in the facility.
Acting Agriculture Minister Mawlavi Attaullah Umari said after the inauguration of this facility people will be able to get health meat.
He said most animals in the country slaughtered in unprofessional manner due to which some diseases transferred from animals to humans and caused the loss of previous lives.
Mazar-i-Sharif Mayor Naqibullah Tariq said the slaughter house had all the required facilities and met the required standard.
