MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): At least 10 people have been killed and 168 more wounded as a result of traffic accidents on the lousy Kabul-Ghazni highway over the past 10 months, local officials say.
Maidan Wardak, Traffic Director Samiullah Rahbar told Pajhwok Afghan News: “About 121 accidents have occurred between Kabul and Ghazni City over the past 10 months.”
The official claimed: “This busy road has not been constructed to acceptable standards and its poor condition often causes accidents,” he explained.
Dr. Mohammad Zarak Zeerak, director of public health, said: “In last 10 months, 10 bodies and 168 injured people were evacuated to hospitals from accident sites.”
He added 79 injured individuals were taken to hospital by the Wardak ambulance service in the last three months.
Eid Mohammad, a driver, said: “No one has paid any attention to the poor condition of the road. Drivers are in real trouble because so many speed bumps on the highway.”
He urged the government to reconstruct the highway to standard — a demand made by many drivers.
