Supply up to 200kg jam, pickles to market: Sultani

KABUL (Pajhwok): An entrepreneur lady Najia Sultani in capital Kabul supply around 200 kilogram of jam and pickles — also known as turshi — to the market and provided work opportunity to 20 other women as well.

Sultani who have a small factory inside her house in the Chahar Asyab district of Kabul said she could expand her factory and provide work up to 100 women if there is around the clock electricity and a suitable market is explored.

She added two years back up to 100 women worked in the factory and they produced one tonne of jam and turshi daily.

But due to electricity shortage and dwindling market their the sale had dropped and now they produced up to 200 kilogram of jam and the number of worker also declined to 20 persons.

She told Pajhwok Afghan News that she has nine children and started producing jam and turshi nine years ago to help her husband in meeting the household expanses.

She said two years ago she daily earned 5,000 afs but currently she earned up to 1,000 afs.

“Right now 20 women are working with me and they daily come to the factory in order to find livelihood for their families.”

She added now they produced up to 200 kilograms of turshi and gam to the market and sale each kilo against 100 afs, half of their profit was separated for the expenses of factory and half of the remaining went to her pocket.

She asked the government to supply electricity for the factories and explore markets for their products.
