KABUL (Pajhwok): The General Directorate of Intelligence (GD) has detained the individuals involved in spreading rumours about the evacuation of Afghans from Kabul to Turkey and insulting people near the airport.
In response to such rumours, a number of people rushed last week to the Kabul Airport in the hope of evacuation to Turkey to participate in rescue operations in earthquake-hit areas. However, they were not allowed to enter the airport.
At night, several people scrambled to the airport. A video clip circulating on social media showed gunmen insulting the people and firing into the air to disperse them.
Maulvi Abdul Haq Hamad, head of the Media Monitoring Commission at the Information and Culture Ministry, tweeted on Thursday that the rumormongers had been arrested by the General Directorate of Intelligence.
He wrote those who used abusive words against the citizens had also been detained. “No one will be allowed to abuse people.”
