GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The number of people visiting historic museum in Ghazni city, the capital of southern Ghazni province, had surged by 50 percent recently, an official said on Saturday.
Mawlavi Hameedullah Nisar Ghaznavi, the provincial Information and Culture Department director told Pajhwok Afghan New, the number of people who visited the museum in the past stood at 25 on daily bases while currently up to 50 or even more people visit the museum every day.
“So far this year up to 2,500 people, majority foreigners and local visitors coming from far flung areas of the country, visited the museum while thousands of people, the exact figure of which are not ascertained, coming from Ghazni districts and villages visited the museum.” Ghaznavi said.
He said Ghazni was one of the historic places in the country where historic shrines, national museum and other historic places are situated that worth visiting.
Ghaznavi said, there were thousands of historical items in Ghazni museum from the civilizations of Bactrian, Kushanian, Ghaznavids, Ghoris, Sassanid’s, and other empires.
These historical items are made of stone, iron, leather, clay, tile, copper and some of them are even 2,500 years old, he added.
Currently 150 items have been put for the display of the visitors in showroom of the museum while 1,200 more of the items from the Ghaznavids and Timurids eras are kept in the store of the museum due to the lack of enough room in showroom of the museum.
The local residents and some visitors of the museum said, the government must provide more facilities for the visitors the double the efforts of reconstruction in this province which will attract more visitors and that could help to further flourish the economy of this province.
Nazar Mohammad, a resident of Ghazni told Pajhwok, the government must implement more development projects and reconstruct the damaged roads to attract more visitors.
The implementation of such projects will increase the revenue of the government and leave positive impact on the lives of the residents.
Ali Sajjad, a visitor from Bamyan told Pajhwok, there was need for the extension of the museum to bring in more historic items from its store to the showroom for display, adding that currently a few items were put on display in the museum.
According to Sajjad’s information, the museum of Ghazni has many historical items related to the era of Islamic civilization and Buddhism that should be put in display to attract more visitors.
But, Abdul Qayoum, another visitor said, the Department of Information and Culture must task some officers in the museum who can provide the visitors with more information about the historical items present facility.
He said currently little information written on a piece of paper attached with each historic item, there is need for detail information, he added.
Ghazni province is situated in the southeastern part of the country which has over 200 historical monuments and ancient sites and some entertainment places about which some historian also wrote in the past.
Ghazni Museum was founded in 1978 and is considered one of the historically richest museums of the country.
