KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s exports to Pakistan surpassed one billion dollars mark during the past 10 months while imports from the neighboring country hit $940 million, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said on Wednesday.

While the State Bank of Pakistan says last year imports from Afghanistan slumped by 87 percent to $13.389 million from $105.605 million.

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC), told Pajhwok Afghan News today (Wednesday): “The imports from Pakistan and exports to that country continue through different ports. Afghanistan’s exports to Pakistan during the past ten months reached the volume of more than $1 billion”.

During that period, imports from Pakistan reached $940 million.

Afghanistan mostly exported pine nut, coal, cotton, tomato and onions to Pakistan while Afghanistan imported rice, cement, medicines, potatoes and some other items from Pakistan, Jawad said.

He added: “We hope that the volume of our exports to Pakistan will go higher than this, In Sha Allah”.

The MoIC on 25 February said, Afghanistan exported commercial goods worth $1.8 billion during this (1401) year, showing a 85 percent hike compared to the previous year.
