FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Three people have been arrested, 250 acres of poppy crop eradicated and an alcoholic producing factory had been destroyed in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.
Shafiqullah Hafeezi, the Counter-Narcotics Department director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the detective police personnel recovered and destroyed an alcoholic production factory in the vicinity of Kisham district on Friday night.
He said three allegedly associated persons had been arrested during the raid.
He said 250 acres of poppy crop had been eradicated during less than one month in the surrounding areas of Faizabad, the provincial capital, and some in Argo district.
“The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) stance was serious regarding poppy. Enough awareness had been spread among farmers through media and other instrument,” he added.
Hafeezi added the counter-narcotics commission in the province was comprised of representatives from the Governor Office, Police Headquarters and other relevant institutions.
He said soon the poppy eradication drive would be launched in the districts.
