MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Police said one person was killed and eight others, including five journalists, were injured when a bomb exploded during an award ceremony in northern Balkh province on Saturday.
However, the Journalists Safety Committee said two people were killed and 15 journalists were injured the blast that ripped through the Tabian Farhang center in limits of 2nd police district at around 11:00am.
Police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri told Pajhwok Afghan News that a guard of the center was killed in the blast.
Without providing details, he said that three children and five journalists were injured in the bombing.
Laer, AJC on its Twitter handle wrote that 15 journalists were injured in the blast.
The injured journalists are Pajhwok Afghan News reporter Abdul Sabour Seerat, Tolo News reporter Azizurrahman Ibram, Shamshad TV reporter Rohullah Rohani, Safeer TV reporter Murtaza Samimi, Aryana TV reporter Najib Faryad, Iran’s Sahar TV reporter Fardin Nawrozi, Iran Dari Radio reporter Khaibar Ibrahimi, 24 TV reporter Wahid Jalali, Tamadon TV reporter Jawad Darwish, Farogh TV reporter Haseebullah Azem, Azad News reporter Munir Baheer, Afghan Vice reporter Nasir Zahir, 24 TV reporter Rasoul Sali, AFP Euro News reporter Atif Aryan.
The source said that Journalist Safety Committee (JSC) took financial responsibility for the treatment of injured journalists.
The committee urged the government to take serious measures for the safety of journalists.
