NEILI (Pajhwok): Residents of central Daikundi province complain about insufficient health facilities and services and want the government to address the issue.
Qudrat Musowi, a resident of Daikundi, said inadequate health services in districts caused several patients to lose their lives.
He added all districts of Daikundi were impassable with scattered populations and in some areas there was no health center or even a pharmacy.
According to him, lack of specialist doctors and lack of medicines in health centers are other serious challenges the people are facing and most of patients have to travel to Kabul for treatment.
He added: “There are very few health facilities in the most populated areas and the available health facilities in districts do not have the capacity to treat the large number of patients and on the other hand, there are no professional doctors and equipment.”
Mohammad Nadir, another inhabitant, said a lot of issues plagued the health sector of the province as even an ordinary disease could not be cured here.
He said the people also faced financial challenges and they could not take their patients to a sophisticated health center in other provinces.
He also said that due to the remote and mountainous geography of the province, some patients die before reaching health centers.
Ibrahim Akbari, another resident, complained about the lack of medicines and beds in hospitals which caused the transmission of diseases.
“I myself had taken patients to the provincial hospital several times and I witnessed that the place for the ailing people was very inappropriate,” he added.
Gulsoom, a resident of Neili, whose son was admitted in the provincial hospital, since about a week, also complained about the lack of beds.
He added: “Doctors were very responsive, whenever they come, they ask questions and give medicines, but there are no enough beds, three children share one bed.”
He added his son was not fully recovered when doctor discharged him due to the lack of beds.
The residents say health facilities are their basic need and the government should to pay attention in this connection.
Reza Nejati, one of the doctors and a representative of the private health sector in Daikundi, told Pajhwok that currently health services were good compared to the past, but some problems remained.
He added in addition to public health centers, the private sector was also offering healthcare services to the people.
According to him, the lack of pharmaceutical companies, a standard drug market, and the lack of wholesale sales of medicines are among the challenges crippling the health sector in the province.
Ali Sharifi, Acting Director of Public Health of Daikundi, said that health services were being provided normally in all regions and there was no serious problem in this area.
He added that there were about 140 health centers in the province that operated in mobile and fixed form.
However, he said they had shared their suggestions with the ministry concerned about some deficiencies in order to solve these problems to facilitate people’s access to health services.
