3 drinking water supply projects inaugurated in Farah, Sar-i-Pul

FARAH CITY/SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): Work on three drinking water supply projects in western Farah and northern Sar-i-Pul province have been completed and inaugurated, officials said on Saturday.

Farah Information and Cultural Affairs Director Mawlavi Abdul Hai Sabawoon told Pajhwok Afghan News work on the drinking water supply project had been completed in the Kozraj village of Farah City.

He said he project had been executed at the over 15 million afs financial support of UNICEF.

He said work on the project kicked off 11 months earlier and completed on Saturday.

He said the water supply reservoir has the capacity to store 50 cubic metre water and supply water to 457 homes.

Ibrahim, the resident of Kozraj village, said: “In the past there was no clean drinking water supply facility in our area and people traveled a long distance to arrange drinking water but now we hope that after the inauguration of this scheme our problem of clean drinking water will be resolved.”

Separately, two drinking water supply projects inaugurated Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital.

The project is executed with the five million financial support of UNICEF.

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Damullah Jummah Haqyar told Pajhwok Afghan News a drinking water supply project worth three million was inaugurated in the Alizi village at the cost of three million and a separate drinking water project was inaugurated in the Sherabad area at the cost of two million afs.

He said UNICEF provided money for the implementation of two project while the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department monitored the work.

He said 90 metre deep wells had been dug for the water supply project. Each reservoir has the capacity to store 20 cubic metre water and both supply drinking water to 410 families.
