ATLANTA (Pajhwok): The doors of knowledge must not be slammed in anyone’s face, including females, says Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai.
Stanikzai made the remarks during his visit to the Afghanistan Consulate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday.
He commented: “There is no difference between religious and scientific education. Knowledge is important for the reinforcement of the religion.”
Last week, the Afghanistan Consulate in Dubai was formally handed over to the caretaker government, which later sent its representative to the mission.
Stanikzai said he and his colleagues were trying to open the doors of educations for girls and boys.
The diplomat said he had talked to the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate (IE) about the reopening of educational institutions for girls. He called the closure of schools for girls a temporary decision.
Stanikzai has made similar statements in the past as well. Like him, other IEA officials have also said they do not oppose girls’ education in the framework of the Shariah law.
