Afghanistan, Iran talk prisoners extradition, other legal issues

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Mawlavi Shamsuddin Shariati has hailed Iran’s efforts for the release of Afghan prisoners and demanded the continuation of Afghan prisoners’ cases assessment and extradition.

Shariati made the remarks during a meeting between Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Syed Hassan Murtazavi, according to a tweet from the Iranian Embassy in Kabul.

Referring to improved relationship between Iran and Afghanistan, the attorney general said that Kabul was following up the demands of Iran and was never unmoved regarding its importance.

He assured that Iranian prisoners in Afghanistan’s jails would be released soon.

Referring to his recent trip to Iran, Shariati said: “Trip to Iran and the agreements signed there were steps forwards towards the resolution of legal issues between the two countries and some legal problems faced by the citizens of both countries.”

He added Afghanistan will soon start the process of extraditing Iranian prisoners.

Referring to the resolution of legal issues between the two countries, Martazavi said: “One of the most important issue for Tehran was follow up of the prisoners issues, in the past different existed on this issue and I hope in current situation their cases would be wrapped up and would be extradited soon.”

This comes that two months earlier, a high level delegation on the head of Attorney General Mawlavi Shamsuddin Shariati travelled to inquire after the condition of Afghan prisoners in Iran.

The trip led to the release of a large number of Afghan prisoners in Iran.
