KABUL (Pajhwok): Following mediation efforts by Egypt and Qatar, Hamas is set to release three Israeli hostages in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners today (Saturday), a media report said.
The development comes amid growing concerns regarding the breakdown of a nearly month-long ceasefire in the Gaza Strrip.
Last week, Hamas accused Israel of systematically violating the ceasefire agreement and preventing humanitarian aid from entering Gaza.
The group had warned if Israel continued to block the entry of humanitarian assistance, no more captives would be released.
In response, Israeli authorities have mobilised reserve forces and are preparing for the possible resumption of hostilities.
Reuters reported Hamas had agreed to release three Israeli captives in exchange for 369 Palestinian prisoners after mediation by Egypt and Qatar.
It will be the sixth swap since the truce took effect on Jan. 19. So far, 21 hostages and over 730 Palestinian prisoners have been freed during the first phase of the truce.
