KABUL (Pajhwok): Tailors in capital Kabul have complained against the decline in their business this year comparing to the past year despite the ongoing season ahead of Eid.

Wearing new clothes, arranging special food and fruits are part of activities to celebrate Eid. The people of Afghanistan also strive to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with seal and religious enthusiasm.

People before the start of Ramazan go to the market buy garment and give to the tailor of sewing and most of the time tailors don’t accept orders after the half of Ramdan.

But today, 18th of Ramadan, some tailors have complained against the decline in their work and receiving little orders.

Abdul Tahir Farzan, the owner of Tahir Chakari Clothes and Tailoring Shop, said there was a drastic decline in the orders they received this year comparing to the past year.

He said there was no change in the price of sewing saying that the sewing price of one person clothes was 400 afs in the past and in the present.

He said last year at this time he received 100 orders while this year he has 20 orders/

He said there was drastic decline in their business after political change in the country and growing economic and financial crisis faced by the people.

Asadullah, another tailor in the Baharistan area of Kabul, said he always had a large number of clients but currently he also complained against the decline of business.

“The business that we had in the past is no more existing. Our business is down by 70 percent,” he said without giving exact facts and figures.

He said there was no change in the price of sewing adding that designed clothes had different price.

Abdul Ghafoor Hamzakhel, the owner of Zamzam Tailoring situated in Macroryan, said there was decline in female orders as well this year compared to the past year.

He said we sewed 20 clothes daily in Ramdan in the past but now due to the decline of orders we sew six female clothes.

He said in the past we stopped sewing clothes after the 15th of Ramadan but this year we can get orders till Eid.

Abdul Habib, one of the customers in Baharistan, said: “I come here to order clothes for myself for Eid.”

He said he liked to order clothes always and came to Baharistan from the past 15 years to order clothes.

But Zuhal, the resident of Khairkhana area of Kabul, said: “The tailor charges more than the price of garment. I buy sewed clothes.”

Mohammad Sadiq, the resident of Bibi Mahro area of Kabul, said he purchased clothes every year for himself and his son but his time he was unable to do so due to financial crisis.
