ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with his Chinese and Iranian counterparts on Thursday on the sideline of Samarkand conference on Afghanistan.

Government-run Bakhter news agency reported, in the meeting with China FM focused on bilateral ties between Afghanistan and China, security issues, economic cooperation, regional economic connectivity, increasing Afghanistan’s exports to China and many other regional issues that were discussed.

Foreign Minister, Muttaqi welcomed China’s foreign policy, which respects Afghanistan’s independence, national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and religious and cultural choices.

He said that China has an important role in the region and Afghanistan is willing to work together with this country in terms of economy, trade and investment.

For his part, China’s foreign minister said that his country is ready to assist Afghanistan in different sectors and termed Afghanistan’s security and stability is important for China.

He said that China is ready to assist Afghanistan join the Belt and Road Initiative.

China wants to expand trade with Afghanistan, open new air corridors and start importing dry and fresh fruits from Afghanistan in the future. He added.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi meets his Iranian counterpart Amir-Abdollahian in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

The two sides discussed on details on the political, economic and transit growth between two countries, regional stability, security, and further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, according to a statement.

Muttaqi thanked his Iranian counterpart for providing facilities to Afghan refugees, supports of Iran on the prevention trafficking of drugs in Afghanistan and the treatment of drug addicts.

Acting Foreign Minister, Mawlavi Amir Muttaqi has traveled an official visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the meeting of foreign ministers of 7 countries in the region on Afghanistan.
