MoPH spurns WHO report on infant mortality rate

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has spurned the World Health Organisation’s report on 167 infantdeaths due to curable diseases in Afghanistan on a daily basis.

On Monday, WHO tweeted: “Did you know that an estimated 167 infants die every day in #Afghanistan due to preventable child mortality causes? We must act fast to save lives & improve maternal & child health.”

Dr. Sharafat Zaman Amar, spokesman for MoPH, tweeted: “The report of the WHOcomes at a time when comprehensive work has been done to prevent mortalities and standard services are provided.”

He urged all national and international institutions to be more accurate in their reports and avoid disrupting public minds with baseless information.

Without going into details, the MoPH spokesman wrote that mortality cases had been reduced several times in the country
