PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): In an anticipated move, Pakistan has sent back its chief diplomat to Kabul four months after a botched attempt on his life.
Chargé d’Affaires Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani, in charge of the Pakistan embassy in Kabul, confirmed to Dawn: “Yes, I have resumed my responsibilities.”
Islamabad had recalled Nizamani, who escaped unhurt in the Islamic State-claimed attack on the Pakistan embassy in early December 2022.
The decision on the diplomat’s return to Kabul came during a telephone conversation between Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his Afghan counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi.
Neither Islamabad nor Kabul has formally verified the diplomat’s return to the embassy. Nizamani replaced ex-ambassador Mansoor Ahmed Khan on November 4, 2022.
