PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): About 15 new historical sites have been registered in the wake of a fresh survey in northern Baghlan province.

With the registration of the new places, the number of ancient sites in the province has increased to 27, says an official.

Information and Culture Director Maulvi Mustafa Hashimi told Pajhwok Afghan News a survey by the department assessed 30 historical sites in the province recently.

As a result, he said, about 15 historical places were documented in Pul-i-Khumri, Jalga, Nahrain, Baghlan-i-Markazi, Dahna Ghori, Khanjan, Bano, Deh Salah and Pul-i-Hesar districts.

He said the historical sites were important for the country and a special unit was protecting them. No one was allowed to pillage the sites, he added.

The commander of the 012 Unit, tasked with guarding the sites, said some of them had been dug up illegally in the past but the new government allowed no one to do so.

The registration of the new historical places showed there were other ancient areas as well in the province, he concluded.
