FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in western Farah province have complained against high bread price despite decline in the price flour.
They said one bread was available in the bakery for 20 afs when the price of a 49-kilogram bag of flour was accounted for 2,500, afs while currently the price of the same quantity of flour declined to 1,600 afs but there was no change in the price of bread.
They asked the municipality to keep check on the price of bead and not to allow anybody exploit the market.
Municipality officials and bakeries owners however said there was increase in the weight of bread.
Javid Mazlomyar, the resident of 1st Municipality District of Farh City, said few months earlier the price of 50-kilogram of flour was 2,500 afs and one baked bread was available in the market for 20 afs but now the price of the same quantity of flour dropped to 1,600 afs while the bread price is unchanged.
He asked the Municipality to control the rates of bread in the market.
Mohammad Hassan, the Chahar Bagh village resident of Farah City, said: “Flour and wheat priced declined but bread is still expensive and the rate of bread should also decline accordingly.”
But bakeries owners said the prices are updated monthly and nobody could violate the municipality price list.
Fazal Ahmad, a bakery owner, said: “We get updated price list from the Municipality each month. When flour was expensive the weight of one bread was 350 grams while currently the weight of one bread is 400 grams.”
Qari Abdul Ali Kamyab, spokesperson for the Farah City Municipality, said: “We control the prices every month. In the past when flour was expensive the weight of bread was 330 grams and when the prices of flour dropped the weight of bread also increased gradually.”
He said the weight of one bread is 400 grams this month and nobody will be allowed to violate the municipality price list.
