KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 17 people lost their lives and 61 more were wounded in natural disasters during the past two weeks in different provinces of the country.

Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesman for the State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management, in a video clip shared on the ministry’s twitter handle, said natural disaster incidents happened in Maidan Wardak, Ghor, Kandahar, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Ghazni, Nangarhar, Laghman and Kunar provinces in last 16 days.

According to his information, 17 people lost their lives, 61 more were wounded, more than 200 houses were destroyed partially or completely, affecting nearly 700 families.

More than 400 cattle died, 20 kilometers of roads damaged and crops on seven acres of land were destroyed due to the natural disasters.

Rahimi added that this month, in cooperation with international relief organizations and institutions, nearly 3,000 families affected by natural disasters were provided with food, non-food and cash aid.

On Sunday, the EU mission said Afghanistan was the most vulnerable nation to the impacts of climate change, fearing frequent natural hazards such as droughts or floods could worsen the situation of the Afghan people.
