PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has welcomed the decision on extending China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.
The CPEC extension will deepen trilateral cooperation among Afghanistan, Pakistan and China under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), hopes SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Iftikhar Ali Malik.
In a statement, he said on Wednesday the three foreign ministers had also underlined the significance of ongoing projects such as CASA-1000, TAPI and Trans-Afghan Railway, highlighting their potential to boost regional connectivity and economic development.
Malik remarked: “A peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is in the best interest of the region. It’s high time to further expand trilateral cooperation in the domains of security, development and politics…”
He called upon the global fraternity to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation and provide the necessary supplies, equipment and technical assistance to the relevant countries.
He also urged the international community to support the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan to effectively protect the basic rights and interests of all segments of society and engage constructively with the interim government.
