KABUL (Pajhwok): A coordination office has been set up in the capital of Uzbekistan to facilitate implementation of the trilateral trans-Afghan railroad project.
The joint coordination office was established in Tashkent following the latest round of talks among Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan.
The office is intended to serve as a platform for representatives from the three nations to collaborate on and supervise the project’s execution.
According to the state-run Bakhtar News Agency, the creation of similar offices in Kabul and Islamabad is also on the cards.
A delegation, headed by the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) chief, earlier arrived in Uzbekistan for talks on the technical study for the scheme.
The project involves the construction of a railroad connecting Pakistan through Afghanistan with Uzbekistan.
The delegation, headed by Acting Director Mullah Bakhtur Rahman Sharafat, went into talks with Uzbek and Pakistani officials on the launch of the technical study.
The trans-Afghan railway track between Mazar-i-Sharif and Torkham will connect Central Asia with South Asia through Afghanistan.
Implementation of the project will bring benefits to the country. The 760-km track will need the construction of 33 bridges and three train stations.
