Kabul-Beijing flights resumes on Wednesday

ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu has held a meeting with acting Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul and discussed matters of mutual interest, an official said on Wednesday.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesman for the MoFA, tweeted that Wang Yu and Muttaqi discussed bilateral issues during a meeting on Tuesday.

The Chinese diplomat said his country maintained normal relations with Afghanistan and was willing to further strengthen the ties, Balkhi wrote.

He said direct flights between Afghanistan and China would resume today (Wednesday, May 24) and Mis Ainak copper mine preliminary work would be accelerated.

Yu also promised an increase in Afghan exports, particularly pomegranates, in addition to the renovation of Jamhuriat hospital and the affordable housing scheme would also be inaugurated.

For his part, Foreign Minister Muttaqi welcomed these steps taken by China, calling the resumption of flights between the two countries a good opportunity to strengthen ties and also asked for further facilitation of visa issuance.
