KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Refugees and Repatriation Minister Khalil Rahman Haqqani has asked the Pakistani ambassador in Kabul to relax issuing visas to Afghans and facilitate their travel at border gates.

The ministry in a statement said Haqqani met Pakistan ambassador Ubaidur Rahman Nizamani in his office to discuss problems of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

They discussed creating facilities for Afghans in obtaining visas and crossing border gates, release of Afghan prisoners, allowing Afghans to open bank accounts and many other matters.

The ministry quoted Haqqani as asking the Pakistani envoy to grant a ‘special quota’ to the Afghans living in the country to perform Hajj.

Afghans in Pakistan who wanted to go to Saudi Arabia for the performance of hajj pilgrimage through Afghanistan should be facilitated at the border gates.

Nizamani said he had already shared problems of the Afghan refugees with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and a positive response from them was awaited.

The ambassador assured that serving the refugees was his responsibility and a reward from God and he will continue his cooperation in this regard.
