KALAT (Pajhwok): The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has provided stationery items to 50,000 students in southern Zabul province, an official said on Thursday.
Maulavi Mohammad Nasim Nasir, Deputy Director of Zabul Education department told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Today, the UNICEF provided stationery to 50,000 students from class one to six.”
He, however, said students needed more such assistance and efforts will be made address their problems.
The shortage of textbooks is also evident in some of the schools, we shared the issue with the officials of Ministry of Education (MoE) for solution, he added.
The students expressed pleasure after receiving stationery items and said they are in need of textbooks as well.
Munir Ahmad, a resident of Kalat city said: “We still do not have enough books, we hope the MoE will solve this problem as well”.
Rahmatullah, a student of Tarnak High School from the provincial capital said: “Majority of the schools lacked textbooks, this issue impacts negatively students’ learning process”.
The authorities of the government must pay attention to this problem and they must solve this issue, he added.
According to the provincial Education Department, about 20,000 students are currently studying in the schools and religious Madrasas in Zabul.
