Long deprived of basic facilities, fume Badakhshan residents

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Bumpy roads, inactive telecommunication networks and lack of healthcare services are problems the residents of Shahr-i-Bozorg district of northeastern Badakhshan province have long been facing.

Pajhwok Afghan News reporter visited Shahr-i-Bozorg district and talked with some residents about problem they faced. The residents said they have long been deprived of basic life services since decades.

Najibullah, 30, who has been driving on the Shahr-i-Bozorg-Faizabad road for last ten years, said that every year he witnessed many traffic accidents on the road due to its bad condition.

He added sometimes emergency patients lost their lives on the way to hospital due to lack basic healthcare facilities and bumpy roads.

In addition to lack of standard roads, he also grumbled about the lack of telecom networks. He said only one telecom firm was active in the district which was not adequate.

He urged the government to take serious and timely action to solve their problems, calling on the incumbent rulers not forget the district like the rulers of the previous regime.

Haji Abdul Ghafoor, one of influential people of Dawang village of Shahr-i-Bozorg district, told Pajhwok reporter that they have been facing many problems due to the damaged road and they could not transfer their patients to the central hospital on time.

He added traffic accidents on the road to Faizabad were their major concern. He said remained deprived of telecommunication services and asked government officials to pay attention to their problems.

Islamuddin, another resident of the district, also a driver, said he had experienced accident several times while travelling on the district road and his passengers had been seriously injured.

Maulvi Fazlullah Hanif, the district chief, acknowledged the problems mentioned by the district residents.

He said: “Efforts are underway to solve the problems of people to continue their life comfortably and steps have been taken in the field of telecommunication network services, and in the near future, the residents of this district, especially 21 villages of Dawang will benefit.”

Mahazuddin Ahmadi, head of information and culture department of Badakhshan, also confirmed the residents of Shahr-i-Bozorg district lacked access telecom services and good transportation routes.

He said the local government of Badakhshan was trying to solve the problems of people in every possible way.
