KABUL (Pajhwok): Following the decline in the petroleum products rates, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation has introduced a fresh transport fares list while people complained that drivers violated the government’s fares list.
According to the fresh transportation list the maximum fare of a corolla typed vehicle is 125 afs from Murad Khani to Barikab while the lowest fare is five afs in a coaster type passenger coach from Dasht-i-Barchi to Pul-i-Sokhta area of Kabul.
The new list is arranged keeping in consideration the price of one litre petrol which is 65 afs while the same amount of diesel which is 72 afs.
“Since oil accounts for more than 50% of vehicle consumption of transportation expenses and does not have a fixed rate in the market therefore if it decreases or increases by 20pc, the list will be adjusted accordingly.”
Public Complaints:
Ahmad, the resident of Kota-i-Sangi area of capital Kabul, said he daily travel between Kota-i-Sangi and Shar-i-Naw.
He said: “Due to surge in the petroleum rates the fares also jumped by 10, 20 or 30 afs and now that petrol price had declined so there was no change in the rates of petroleum products.”
According to the government list the fare between Kot-i-Sangi and Shar-i-Naw which is almost nine kilometres is 20 afs for corolla and 10 afs for buses.
Maryam, another resident of Khairkhana area, also complained against the surge in the fare rates. She daily travel between Kahirkhana and Shahr-i-Naw where she live.
“Our problem is the high fare rate and the shortage of vehicles. In the past the rate of petrol was high and we paid 60 afs rent but now the rate of petrol is down but the travel charged the same rent.”
In the new fares list this destination is market 11.5 kilometres the rate of corolla vehicle is 25 afs and other vehicles are 10 afs.
Maryam said she has to wait for hours to find a vehicle in which women are already present otherwise in the front seat one has to pay the rent of two persons.
Ferishta Ahmadi, the resident of Kart-i-Parwan area, also registered similar complaint and said: “I daily travel between Kart-i-Parwan and Qowa-i-Markaz areas. Fares had jumped after surge in the petrol price but now that petrol price had declined there was no change in the rates of fares.”
She said corolla fare jumped from 20 afs to 30 afs when the rates of petrol increased but now that petrol price had declined there was no reduction in the fares.
She also complained against mismanagement and asked officials to ensure that buses are available on every route.
Farhad, the resident of Kabul City, daily travel between Chahalsaton and Faroshgah areas and said: “I travel daily on this route fares had jumped after increase in the petrol price but there was no reduction in the fares after petrol price had declined.”
Farhad who pay daily 80 afs fare asked the government to ensure the implementation of its transportation fares list.
According to the fare list the Chelsaton-Cinama-i-Pamir route is almost seven kilometer and corolla type vehicles are told to take 15 afs rent while other vehicles can take 10 afs.
Hameeda, the resident of Kar-i-Sakhi area, said the fares rate had to come down when there is decline in petrol rates but it never happened.
She is a housewife and often go out to bring grocery and other things for daily usage said from Kart-i-Sakhi to Kot-i-Sangi is a short route but corolla type vehicles charged 20 afs which unjust, when there is no woman in the vehicle one has to set in the front seat and pay the rent for two persons.
Enayatulla, one of the drivers on the same route, said: “In this route, when the price of oil was 60 and 40, the Corolla car fare was 30 afs, and when the price of oil reached 80 and 90, it was the same price. Even if it goes down, it doesn’t work for us, because there are few passengers on this route and we have to wait for hours.”
Rahim Dad, one of the drivers on Chelsaton-Cinama-i-Pamir route, said that corolla type vehicle rent on this rout always remained 20 afs irrespective of surge or decline in the petrol price.
“We are always out to find livelihood but the number of passengers had decline and things are not like it were in the past.”
Transportation Ministry Spokesperson Imamuddin Ahmadi said fares list had been made for the most routes in Kabul city.
He said when there is change in the petrol price the fare list will change as well. the fare list which had been formed is applicable in Kabul City.
He warned individuals violating the fare list will be treated accordingly.
Earlier, PM’s political aide during a meeting with the transportation ministry officials stress over elevating the country’s transportation system.
