Sri Lanka rout Afghanistan to clinch ODI series

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan have been routed in the final ODI match, conceding the three-match series to Sri Lanka, according to media reports on Wednesday.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat, but fast-bowling spearhead Chameera established Sri Lanka’s dominance early with two fiery spells that left the tourists unable to post a decent partnership.

Sri Lanka bowled out Afghanistan for 116 and reached the target in only 16 overs to win their one-day international series 2-1 at Suriyawewa on Wednesday, AP reported.

Sri Lanka won by nine wickets with 34 overs to spare in Hambantota.

Sri Lanka eased to 120 with 34 overs to spare in Hambantota, after a fast-bowling attack led by man-of-the-match Dushmantha Chameera had demolished the hapless Afghan top order.

Chameera 4-63 to be named player of the third match, and six wickets in two matches to be named player of the series in his comeback. He missed the first ODI.

Fellow quick Lahiru Kumara, recovered from a hamstring strain, dismissed both openers and Chameera took out four of the top six batters. Legspinner Wanindu Hasaranga finished with three wickets after Afghanistan chose to bat first.
