KABUL (Pajhwok): United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA) commended the decline in poppy cultivation, saying it has asked the China and India to support Afghan farmers.
Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Maulvi Abdul Kabir, met with the Roza Otunbayeva Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UNAMA and the delegation accompanying her, a statement from Arg said.
Maulvi Kabir hailed the continuation of the UN cooperation with Afghans and urged its increase.
Meanwhile, Otunbayeva said the steps taken by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan against drug cultivation and trafficking were positive and important, and the international community considered it a key development.
“Our data through satellite shows that there is a considerable decrease in poppy cultivation.” she added.
Otunbayeva said that they had asked China and India to support Afghan farmers.
