3 people injured in overnight Badakhshan flash floods

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Flash floods in northeastern Badakhshan province has left three people injured and inflicted financial losses on people, including partial damage to 10 hydro facilities, an official said on Monday.

Mohammad Kamgar, head of the Natural Disaster Management Authority said flash floods erupted in the Zebak, Eshkashim, Shaghnan, Nasi, Shaki and Kof Ab districts on Sunday night due to heavy rainfall.

“The flash floods resulted in heavy financial losses on people, public property installations such as bridges, culvert, small hydro projects and roads that connected districts.”

Three people including an elderly woman were injured in the Miyana village of Nasi district. the health condition of the woman is not stable.

Twenty house partially or totally perished in six districts, 400 animals and hundreds acres of agriculture land was also destroyed.

The Marokh bridge that connected Shaghnan and Eshkashim districts also partially damaged by the overnight flash flood.

Mawlavi Ghulamullah, the resident of Kof Ab district termed the recent flash floods dangerous and said: “The Badgak bridge built at the cost of 1.5 million afs recently was partially damaged and most of the small hydro projects also partially damaged,” he said.

He demanded the provision of emergency relief and warned delay in the delivery of assistance may cause more damage and losses.
