Balkh’s Charbolak district schools face teachers shortage

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Several schools in Charbolak district of northern Balkh province have no buildings and there is a shortage of teachers as well, students say.

The students say they lack access to potable water and attend lessons in tents in hot weather

They emphasize that in order to improve the teaching process, the problems of the shortage of teachers and lack of buildings should be addressed.

Azizullah, a student of Imam Fakhruddin Razai school in Sheti village of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that their school lacked enough teachers and building.

He said: “We face a shortage of teachers, the number of teachers should be increased, we want a water well and a building for our school because we are studying under the open sky in this hot summer in tents.”

Lailuma, another student of the school, said they endured sizzling heat in summer and snow and rains in winter.

She urged the caretaker government to solve the problems of shortage of teachers and lack of building for their school

Samir Khan, a 6th grade student in Sultan Ibrahim school in Naward Shalkhi village of Charbolak district, said their  school had no building and faced with shortage of teachers.

He also urged the government to construct a  building for their school and address the teachers shortage issue.

Teachers made similar complaints.

Imam Fakhruddin Razai school principle Yar Mohammad said the district had no enough teachers and some schools were without buildings

He added: “Our school has no building and potable water facility. We have only four teachers which is not enough for 14 classes.”

He asked the government and aid giving organizations to pay attention to their problems.

Education officials acknowledged the problems in the district.

Jamshid, Charbolak district education officer, told Pajhwok that schools in the district were facing shortage of teachers and seven out of 50 schools had no structure.

He added mostly schools were run in private houses and that he had  shared these problems with the provincial authorities.

Jamshid promised that all problems related to education in the district would be solved

Balkh education department officials had previously said the province faced a shortage of 1,500 teachers.
