MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): A man convicted of murder was publicly executed in Mehtarlam, the capital of eastern Laghman province, on Tuesday, the second public execution since the Islamic Emirate’s return to power.
Laghman governor's spokesman Maulvi Salamat Khan Bilal told Pajhwok Afghan News that Ajmal, a resident of Kabul's Guldara district, had killed four sons and one daughter of Juma Khan, a resident of Qarghiu district of Laghman.
He said three courts had issued Qisas order for Ajmal. He said the judicial order was enforced after Islamic Emirate supreme leader carefully examined and approved it.
According to him, Ajmal was executed today in public and was shot dead by the deceased’s family in the Eidgah mosque of Mehtarlam.
The governor of Laghman, Qari Zainul Abidin Abid, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Mufti Atiqullah Darwish, the head of the Nangarhar Military Court, the heads of different courts of Laghman, civil and military officials, religious scholars, tribal leaders and youth witnessed the execution.
The first known public execution of a man charged with murder was staged last December in the western province of Farah. That was performed with an assault rifle by the victim's father.
