TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Some residents of Taloqan, the capital of northern Takhar province have demanded the completion of Mosque’s construction work.

They said despite one million afs revenue the mosque generated every month but from the past 20 years, its construction work remained uncompleted.

Sibghatullah Shafiq, a civil society activist in Takhar, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Work on construction of central Mosque was underway from over the past 20 years despite the fact that the mosque generated one million afs revenue from the shops built in the area of mosque.”

He said it was one of the most important mosques in the city and high ranking officials often came here to offer prayer.

He stressed the current government should pay attention to the construction of the mosque.

Abdul Wakeel Krimi, another resident of Takhar, said the foundation stone of the mosque was lied 20 years back, there are some shops which is the property of mosque and its revenue landed in the state treasury but attention was paid to the completion of construction work.

He said one of the priorities of the current government was the construction of mosques so it is expected that the remaining work of Taloqan Jami Mosque be completed.

Qari Sakhi, the Mosuqe Moazin — the one who call Azan —, said the central Jami Mosque had the capacity of 10,000 worshipers in one time.

“We want the government to pay attention to the completion of construction work at Mosque.”

Hajj and Religious Affairs Minister Asadullah Wafa acknowledged annually nearly one million afs revenue generated from the shops built on the mosque property and the amount go to the Religious Affairs Ministry.

Wafa acknowledged recently seven million afs had been approved for the remaining construction work of the mosque and pledged to resume the work soon.
