MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Shopkeepers at the all-women Khadija Al-Kubra market in Mazar-i-Sharif say women should buy their necessary items from them in order to support them.
They also complain about lack of buyers and want women to support them by purchasing items from them.
The Khadija-ul-Kubra women's market in Mazar-e-Sharif was opened about six months ago and almost all items needed by women are sold in this market.
Rohina Qadri, a shopkeeper in the market, complained about low sales and urged other women to buy their necessary items from them.
"These days and nights preceding Eid, we give special discounts to women and our products are also of good quality. We want women to buy their necessary items from us.”
According to her, she pays the rent of the shop, but cannot sell goods worth 1,000 afghanis per day.
Nafisa Sadat, another shopkeeper who sells cloths for kids and women, is unhappy with her sales.
Nafisa called on women to visit their shops and purchase items they need.
Khatera Halimi, another shopkeeper, said if women purchased items from them, they would give special discount.
Pashtana Afghan, in charge of the market, said that about 900 women were busy working in 320 shops of this market.
Nisar Ahmad Nizai, financial and administrative officer at Balkh Industry and Commerce department, said they were making serious efforts to for the development of the women-only market.
