LASHKARGAH/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Two youth bathing in Helmand river were swept away by strong current in Kajaki district of the southern province while another person drowned in Yakhshira waterfall in Warduj district of northeastern Badakhshan province.
Helmand deputy director of information and culture department Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riaz told Pajhwok that a 15-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the river in Tangi area of Kajaki district center yesterday.
He added the incident came a day after another person drowned in the river while swimming and his body was yet to be found, but local officials and residents were trying to find him.
Riaz said instructions had been given to the people by local authorities and special signs were also placed on the banks of the river, but some people ignored the warnings.
In Badakhshan, a person drowned while visiting Yakhshira waterfall in Warduj district, police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar said.
He said the incident took place yesterday afternoon when a resident of Khash district wanted to swim in the Yakhsheera waterfall , but he drowned and presumed dead. His body is yet to be found.
